INDICATION OF CEFADROXIL
This is most effective,safest & cheapest antibiotic available in market.
It is useful in both gram +ve & gram -ve bacteria. Either it directly kills bacteria or inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis. This way cefadroxil kills the bacteria. It is indicated in below conditions
- It is given for skin & soft tissue infection caused by staphylococcus & streptococcus bacteria means the conditions like Boil or etc.
- Tonsillitis
- Pharyngitis
- Urinary tract infection (UTI)
- Osteomyelitis
In above conditions cefadroxil medicine is useful.
DOSAGE OF CEFADROXIL
This is most important part. Because once you choose medicine you have to also select proper dosage as per weight of patient.
Dosage is : approx 30mg/ kg / day in two divided doses.
For example
In children above 6 yr – 250mg tablet twice in a day
In adult – 500mg tablet twice in a day
cefadroxil antibiotic is available in two strength: 250mg & 500mg. This way dosage is calculated & given.
SIDE-EFFECT
Each & every molecule which have effect, it has also side-effect. We can not deny adverse effect or side-effect. But it is not happen to everybody, it only occurs to someone who have sensitivity to particular molecule.
It is patient’s responsibility that they should bring sensitivity report with them if any, while consulting doctor.
If adverse effect occur, that may like as below.
- Nausea,vomiting,diarrhoea,epigastric distress
- Rash,urticaria,general itching
- Pseudomembranous colitis

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Firstly, we should not take antibiotic without doctor’s advise. Once we started the antibiotic course, we must finish the course. If we not do so, than there is increase chances of antibiotic resistance.
This medicine should use cautiously in renal dysfunctions & colitis. So, tell your doctor if you have or have ever had gastrointestinal disease ( stomach or intestine), especially colitis (condition that causes swelling in the lining of colon), or kidney problem.
Use only if clearly indicated in pregnancy.
