Antibiotic means medicine which inhibit growth or destroy bacteria. There are many antibiotics available today in market. It is differenciate under groups. Penicillin group contains antibiotics like amoxicillin, ampicillin, cloxacillin, piperacillin, etc.
Amoxicillin comes under penicillin group of antibiotics. This contain is widely used to treat many bacterial infections. In pediatric patient amoxicillin is commonly used.
Amoxicillin was discovered in 1958 and come into commercial use since 1972. As per World Health Organization, it is saffest, effective and most essential antibiotic. In 2017, it was the 18th most commonly prescribed medication in the USA, with more than 27 million prescriptions.

Amoxicillin works in two ways. First it kills bacteria directly & second it inhibit bacterial wall synthesis. This way it kills bacteria & save us from bacterial infections. Amoxicillin kills so many bacteria. Here I am giving few names of bacteria, as mention below.
DOSAGE OF AMOXICILLIN
When you choose the medicine for particular disease, next challenge is to give in proper dosage.
Dosage is : approx 30 to 40mg/ KG/ day in three divided doses.
For eg.
10 KG child – 125mg three time in a day
20 KG child – 200mg three time
40kg or more – 500 mg twice or three time in a day
This way dosage is calculate. If weight is more than 40KG, dosage is given same as above mention.

SIDE-EFFECT
Each & every molecule which have effect, it has also side-effect.We can not deny adverse effect or side-effect.But it is not happen to everybody, it only occurs to someone who have sensitivity to particular molecule.
It is patient’s responsibility that they should bring sensitivity report with them if any, while consulting doctor.
If adverse effect occur, that may like as below.
- Diarrhoea
- Nausea, vomiting
- Allergic – swollen mouth, itching, rashes
